Gangs of New York
Miramax Films presents Gangs of New York one of our favorite films so it was only fair that it received a post. The film is set in the Five Points district of New York City. It is a historical film that depicts the birth of Manhattan and the way that waves of immigrants from different parts of the world shaped the evolution of New York City. The film was inspired by Herbert Asbury’s 1928 nonfiction book The Gangs of New York. Furthermore Gangs of New York was nominated for numerous awards, including the Academy Award for Best Picture.

Synopsis: In an Epic opening battle between the two gangs William Cutting aka Bill the Butcher strikes down and kills Priest Vallon leader of The Dead Rabbits immigrant gang. Priest Vallon’s son Amsterdam Vallon is a young Irish immigrant at the time and he flees the scene only to return years later when he released from prison. He returns to the Five Points in search of revenge for his father’s death. William cutting is the powerful anti-immigrant gang leader who Amsterdam is after. He knows that he can only avenge his fathers death and kill Cutting by getting into Cutting’s circle. Amsterdam’s journey becomes a personal fight for survival and freedom for his Irish people. The film is based in 1860’s New York.
