Last night during Sundays Los Angeles Lakers win over the Oklahoma City Thunder Metta World Peace, Ron Artest, was ejected for throwing and elbow at James Harden.
Ron Artest has been known to be a basketball bad boy even before being traded to the Lakers. Back in in 2004 when World Peace was still Artest and starting for the Indiana Pacers, he made headline news and was suspended for 86 games for his involvement in a brawl between players and fans at their game against the Detroit Pistons after somebody threw a drink on him.
He i known for bringing the rough and rugged side of the street game into the professional game of basketball. Unfortunately, he also has personal battles that he is fighting off the court and its no hidden story that he has been going through extensive lengths to rehabilitate himself.
Sadly, in the second quarter during last nights basketball game World Peace lost control and after coming off a beautiful dunk he hit OKC team player James Harden in the face. If you watch the clip below you’ll see Metta World Peace pounding his chest to show strength and power after he dunks the ball but as soon as Harden steps in his way its lights out! World peace hits him with a thunderous blow to the head and is than ejected from the game shortly after.
After the game World Peace told reporters, “During that play I just dunked and Ibaka, and I got really emotional and excited. It was unfortunate that James had to get hit with an unintentional elbow”. Furthermore, “I hope he’s OK. The Thunder, they’re playing for a championship this year, so I hope that he’s OK and I apologize to the Thunder and to James Harden”.
Hours passed before World Peace watched the replay of the situation and tweeted, “Oooo .. My celebration of the dunk really was too much … Didn’t even see James … Omg… Looks bad.”
ESPN analyst Michael Wilbon was very upset about the scenario and said, “He has gone to such lengths to rehabilitate his image, and to revert back to this? He lost control..”
The worst part is through all of this people will remember him for the 2 negatives and not as much the positive. Before Ron Artest ever changed his name to World Peace he was working on making the world a more peaceful place. In 2011 he went as far as raffling his 2010 NBA Championship ring in order to help mentally ill youths. For this Artest was given the NBA’s citizenship award for philanthropic work.
As of now World Peace faces serious punishment. Not only fines but also suspension for the remainder of the regular season and even into the playoffs.
On the upside the Los AngelesLakers won 114-106 over the Thunder in thrilling double overtime finish.
