According to North Korean state media, Kim Jong Il, died early Saturday morning due to a heart attack while traveling by train. His death creates nothing positive and only uncertainty about the future direction of the isolated nation which has few international friends.
In September 2010, Kim Jong Il unveiled his third son, the young twenty-something Kim Jong Un, as his successor.
Kim Jong Il, the ruthless leader that he was, is known for his love of women, cigars, cognac and gourmet foods, and was reported suffering a stroke in 2008. He also had many chronic illnesses so the heart attack comes at no surprise. Oh and don’t forget that karma’s a bitch.
According to Barbara Demick and John M. Glionna of the Los Angeles Times, “Kim Jong Il remained to the end an unrepentant communist, refusing to liberalize North Korea’s economy even as his people became some of the world’s poorest, with millions dying of starvation and tens of thousands imprisoned on charges of political crimes. While rival South Korea became one of the world’s wealthiest nations, many in the North have earned less than a dollar a month.”
If Kim Jong Un is anything like his father, North Koreans will continue with their focus on Military First and the countries people will continue to suffer from famine.
